North Florida College named “Great College to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education
NFC receives “Great College to Work For” Honor Roll designation four years consecutively
MADISON, FL (Sept. 16, 2019) – North Florida College is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for according to results released today by The Chronicle of Higher Education. This is NFC’s fourth consecutive year on the prestigious “Great Colleges to Work For” ranking; again receiving Honor Roll designation for creating an exceptional work environment for its faculty and staff.
“Receiving this honor for the fourth consecutive year speaks volumes about our campus, employees and the extraordinary work environment that we enjoy here at North Florida College,” said NFC President John Grosskopf. “Our small, intimate environment and supportive culture of teamwork and respect create an institution where every employee is able to make a productive contribution to our mission and goals. Our college is a family in the truest sense of the word, and every member of that family has an opportunity to strengthen the whole, and to expect to be supported and nurtured in return.”
The “Great Colleges to Work For” survey is one of the largest and most respected workplace recognition programs in the country. Now in its twelfth year, it recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees regarding workplace practices and policies.
NFC is one of only 85 institutions, out of 236 that participated, to achieve the 2019 “Great College to Work For” designation. Six colleges and universities in Florida received the honor and NFC was one of only two Florida College System institutions to be recognized. NFC also made the Honor Roll again this year, ranking as a stand-out institution and among the top four two-year colleges with 2,999 students or less.
NFC landed a spot on the Honor Roll for achieving high marks in nine categories that reflect best practices and policies of great colleges. The College was specifically recognized for achievement in the following categories:
- Collaborative Governance
- Compensation and Benefits
- Confidence in Senior Leadership
- Facilities, Workspace, and Security
- Job Satisfaction
- Professional/Career Development
- Respect and Appreciation
- Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship
- Work/Life Balance
“The institutions recognized in this year’s Great Colleges to Work For program don’t wait for problems to occur to pay attention to their people,” said Rich Boyer, Senior Consultant at ModernThink. “Conversely, they’re intentional (and successful!) in being good stewards of their institutions’ cultures and shaping the day-to-day experience of their faculty and staff to the ultimate benefit of their students.”
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional questionnaire that captured employment data and workplace policies and practices from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.
