NFC Honors Registered Nursing Class of 2022

MADISON, FL (May 3, 2022) – On Tuesday, May 3, North Florida College (NFC) was thrilled to resume its traditional pinning and lamp lighting ceremony for its Registered Nursing Class of 2022. Graduates made their way to the stage in Van H. Priest Auditorium to be honored and officially welcomed into the nursing profession.

The pinning and lamp lighting ceremony is held for each graduating class of nurses at NFC and through the ages has been considered a rite of passage, marking the beginning of each student’s career as a healthcare professional. Tears of accomplishment, joyous cheers and words of encouragement were shared among graduates, their family and friends, and the NFC nursing faculty and staff as the graduates shared memories about their educational journey and received NFC’s official nursing pin.

Lawrence Boles of Jefferson County received the Academic Achievement Award. Ashlyn Carter of Lowndes County, Georgia received the Nightingale Award of Excellence. Amanda Miley of Hamilton County received the Student of Excellence Award presented by South Georgia Medical Center. Laura Johnson of Hamilton County received the Associate Degree of Nursing Award. Hannah Reaves of Suwannee County received the Keeper of the Light Award. As Keeper of the Light, Reaves will return next year to pass along the tradition to the 2023 graduating class.

Twenty-three graduates took part in the ceremony's “Lighting of the Lamps” and reciting of the Nightingale Pledge. NFC faculty member, Greg Molnar, Ph.D., was chosen by the graduating class to be the guest speaker.

NFC’s Registered Nursing Class of 2022 will be recognized and receive diplomas during the College’s regular commencement ceremony on May 6.

"I am so excited about this cohort of the Associate of Science in Nursing graduates,” said NFC Associate Dean for Nursing and Allied Heath Dr. James D. Holland. “I know that they will be an asset to their healthcare team because they have a strong work ethic and are eager to start their career as a registered nurse. We feel they are equipped to lead and assist others in delivering high quality care. I look forward to seeing some of them soon as they will return to NFC to start the online RN-BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) to further their education in nursing."
