Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund Reporting
Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students
In accordance with reporting requirements by the US Department of Education, the following information is provided to describe the use of funds distributed to North Florida College (College) under Section 18004(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”), Pub. L. No. 116-136, 134 Stat. 281. This information is made available to the public 30 days after the date the College received its allocation and will be updated quarterly:
- The College acknowledges that that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
- The College received $357,742 from Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students
- As of December 31, 2020, the College has distributed $370,600 to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
- There are approximately 600 students at the College that are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
- As of December 31, 2020, 297 students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
- The College will use eligibility requirements specified by the Department and other
guidance. Students must meet the following:
- Be enrolled in Spring 2020 semester classes on March 13, 2020, and/or enrolled for Summer 2020 classes
- Be a US Citizen or eligible noncitizen
- Have a valid social security number
- Registered with Selective Service (if the student is male)
- Have a high school diploma, GED, or completion of high school in an approved homeschool setting (must not have been enrolled in high school on March 13, 2020)
- Be making satisfactory academic progress
- Be working on an approved degree or certificate
- Not be in default of a federal student loan or owe a repayment of a federal grant
- Have a FAFSA on file or complete the FAFSA and be eligible to receive Title IV financial
aid
Students who were exclusively enrolled in an online program on or before March 13, 2020, are not eligible for the emergency financial aid grants.
Students who are enrolled in another college or university where they could also be receiving CARES Act funds are not eligible for the emergency financial aid grants.
The amounts of the Emergency Financial Aid Grants will be tiered based on individual socioeconomic circumstances and based on the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), as determined by the student’s FAFSA, as follows:- EFC $0 - $2,000: $900 per eligible semester (Spring 2020, Summer 2020, as applicable)
- EFC $2,001 - $,5576: $700 per eligible semester (Spring 2020, Summer 2020, as applicable)
- EFC $5,577 - $10,000+: $500 per eligible semester (Spring 2020, Summer 2020, as applicable)
