North Florida College student Mason Good honored with Commisioners Leadership Award for hurricane volunteer efforts

MADISON, FL –Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) honored North Florida College student Mason Good with the prestigious Commisioners Leadership Award at the April board meeting held in Tallahassee, FL. This recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to the recovery and volunteer efforts following Hurricanes Helene and Idalia.

Good’s commitment to service shone through during the recovery efforts for Hurricanes Idalia and Helene. In the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, he volunteered with multiple organizations to support those affected, including NFC’s disaster relief efforts with Second Harvest Food Bank and the Cajun Navy. He helped distribute supplies to those in need, prepared and served free meals alongside the Cajun Navy and local grocer C&E Market, and assisted with setup and supply runs from neighboring counties.

“It is an honor to receive this award,” said NFC first-year nursing student Mason Good. “Serving my community has always been a priority in my life.”

The Comissioners Leadership Award honors students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, community involvement, and a commitment to making a positive impact. Mason's efforts have not only aided in the immediate recovery but have also inspired others to engage in volunteerism and community service.

“We are very proud of Mason and all he contributes on and off campus,” said NFC Vice President Jennifer Page. “He has been a standout student while at NFC and we cannot wait to see where he goes from here.”

Good truly embodies NFC’s tagline, "Sentinels stand together," and NFC is proud to call him a Sentinel. His willingness to step up and lend a hand highlights his compassionate nature, strong work ethic, and dedication to making a difference. When it comes to service, Mason is as Good as it gets.
