Dr. Maresch was born in Germany, has been living in Florida for more than twenty years,
and loves to travel. He has been on six of the seven continents and hopes for an opportunity
to travel to Australia to complete them all. Dr. Maresch regularly attends Christ
Episcopal Church of Monticello, FL and serves during services by playing trumpet and
piano.
Guenter Maresch is Professor and Chair of the Department of Natural Science. Currently,
Dr. Maresch teaches College and Calculus-Based Physics, Introduction to Astronomy,
Introduction to Statistics and College Algebra Courses and the associated Labs.
Dr. Maresch mentors North Florida College's Young Engineers Club and the Astronomy
Club. Learning to fly safely and exploring applications of drones, unmanned aerial
vehicles is the current focus of the Young Engineers Club. For Astronomy classes,
labs, the club and the interested community, Dr. Maresch maintains the NFC Astronomical
Observatory, a remote-controlled, research-grade facility for night observations.
Dr. Maresch leads the STEM SEALs research project at NFC. The project focuses on methods
of teaching and learning STEM topics in middle school by creating and providing computer
science and robotics challenges related to vehicles on land, in water and in the air.
Dr. Maresch has been recognized with the Teacher of the Year and Professional Educator
Leadership Award.
